Advent Devotion for December 10, 2012

Today’s Reading is Deuteronomy 7:7-9

“Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.” -DEUTERONOMY 7:9

In our world when we think of a covenant of love we typically think of a marriage relationship. And lets be honest, marriage is not only not what it once was it is not anything comparable to the oath that the Lord has taken with His people. Our idea of a “covenant of love” today has become a selfish agreement that we have the right to dismiss at any moment we choose.

But please know Ashland family, that as the Bride of our Lord, today there is nothing that you will do or not do that will change God’s love for you. In the society that we live in it is hard to believe that love can be permanent. It’s obvious that our world has taken God’s intention for love and made it a throw away emotion rather than a permanent commitment. But we need to not forget that as peoplewe may have lost the concept of true love, but our God has not and He will continue to persue his children with unconditional love.

There is nothing that made us qualified for this love, aside from the fact that we are His. All generations to come can rest assured knowing that those who serve our Lord, serve a faithful God who will not turn around tomorrow and change his mind, he is in it for the long hall…

For those of us who are in Him, we have the ability to live a life of freedom knowing that His love is not earned nor deserved but is guaranteed.
