Advent Devotion for December 12, 2012

Today’s Reading is Romans 5:1-11

“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” -ROMANS 5:5

Sometimes life can be difficult and trying times can arise. Even though we go through trials and tribulations the Lord always knows what’s best for us. When I was younger I owned a car that I really loved. I poured so much time and so much money into this car. Slowly but surely this car started to become my focus of life. Frankly it became an idol. I had put this car before the Lord. I realized this after sometime and I started to ask God to help me. I wanted this car to not be an idol in my life. I asked God specifically help me to stop thinking about this car more than him, stop spending on my time working on it and no time praying or reading or serving the Lord. Then I asked God to do what ever he could to remove this as an idol.

God answered my prayer. One night I went out with a friend for a short time. I drove my car. When the night was over I returned to where I had parked the car and it was gone! My car was stolen!

I had asked God for specific ways on how to remove the idol and It never went away. Until I put it all out on the line and just gave it to the Lord. Then he did what he does best and took the idol from me. Lord thank you for your never ending guidance. I pray that you can continue to walk with me through trying times and always pointing me in the right direction.
